Frequency Conversion
A Frequency Conversion PMC (or PMC-FC) - the optical fibre within the PMC is filled with an active application-specific gas, spliced at each end to an all-solid fibre or hermetically attached to an optical component. When laser light interacts with particular gases it can result in a laser output with a different wavelength or range of wavelengths (frequency conversion). A number of applications have the requirement for high quality wavelengths of light that cannot currently be produced with existing technology, or if they can only by bulky or expensive solutions. The PMC provides a solution to the problem of generating new laser wavelengths with very high efficiency in an inexpensive and compact format.
